I spoke to Randall and he clarified that ABC bike shop will be open 10-6 on Saturday as it is every Mon-Sat. I look forward to seeing everyone on the ride.

st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) } Hello TBC and Bartlesville Pedalers.

Just a quick note to provide details regarding this Saturday’s TBC ride, a joint ride between the Tulsa Bicycle Club and the Bartlesville Pedalers.

I’ve dubbed the ride the “Gone With The Wind” ride in honor of the June 30th, the 71st anniversary of the publishing of Margaret Mitchell’s famous novel (actually, her only novel, “
 frankly Scarlett, I don’t give a
”, you know the rest!). Seemed appropriate for a ride through the Osage hills. Guess it’s more likely that it will be “gone with the rain” this Saturday, but we’ll hope for clear weather! If it’s raining, the ride will revert to a “show-up” ride with those “showing up” determining the route, etc.

WHERE: The ride will start in the thriving metropolis of Ramona, OK. Ramona is about a 35 minute drive north of downtown Tulsa on Hwy 75.
WHEN: Assemble for an 8:00am departure, Saturday morning, June 30th, 2007.
PARKING: When you exit Hwy 75, turning east into Ramona on Wyandotte, proceed about a quarter mile east just beyond the school buildings. There’s ample parking on the left on the east side of the school. For those not familiar with the turn off of Hwy 75, there’s an American Bank of OK on the northwest corner at this intersection with a big (very big) American flag. You’ll turn right (east) into Ramona at this point.
ROUTE: Route maps will be provided, but here’s a Google map of the route if you’d like to preview it - http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1079032
  DISTANCE: 44 miles plus change
  OVERVIEW:
From Ramona, we’ll travel west on county roads to Hwy 11 north of Avant. Lots of “views” from high in the Osage Hills; beautiful country. Then we’ll turn south, take Old State Hwy 11 into Avant, then Broadway out of town and up Javine Hill Rd. We’ll turn off Javine Rd onto Phillips Rd for a ride on this narrow, winding, but pretty road into Skiatook. Phillips Rd has two cattle guards, but they’re in good shape and ridable
just be careful if it’s wet! Phillips Rd is a tree-covered, narrow country lane and we’ll be going downhill a lot. Be cautious, but enjoy the ride. We’ll travel east through Skiatook on Hwy 20 to N. Peoria where we’ll head back north. At 186th St N we’ll head east again, curve north onto W 4000 Rd and stay on it across Hwy 75 to N Memorial (N 4000 Rd). Then we’ll travel north through Vera and back to Ramona.
The first half of the route his hilly with three or four significant climbs (for me anyway) and the second half is nearly flat. There’s a small store in Avant, plenty of stores and fast food places in Skiatook, and a couple of stores in Ramona for refueling before, during and after the ride. Much, most, of this ride follows one of the Tulsa Tough routes, so you’ll be seeing a lot of “Tuf” markings on the road. There are only a couple of spots where we won’t be following these markings. Just look for my “blue” Dan Henry markings for our route.

Visit the Adventure Bicycle Center after the ride!
After the ride, since you’re only a short distance from Bartlesville, you might want to go on into B’Ville and visit the Adventure Bicycle Center. Randall Clayborn, owner and operator of ABC, will be sagging our ride, so you might want to check out what he has to offer at his shop. I think they close at 2pm on Saturdays, so take that into consideration if your ride is a leisurely one.

  See ya there!
I think that’s it? Oh, the route is “Lightly Marked” in light blue paint for the Dan Henry markings. All major turns are marked, but there aren’t many/any confirming marks on long straight stretches. But it’s a pretty straight-forward route, so I don’t think anyone will be getting lost!

Let me know if I’ve forgotten anything
and I’ll see you Saturday where we’ll be “Gone With The Wind!”

  On your left!
