Subject: Let's get Malcolm to the Tour de France!

Dear Friends of Malcolm McCollam,

What can I say? I miss my dad. I have been back home in Portland for three
whole days after my whirlwind visit to Tulsa last week and I miss my dad
already. I am dumbfounded. I followed my typical Tulsa travel routine:
booked my ticket several months in advance to allow myself plenty of
anticipation time; carefully thought out everything that I wanted to do with
Dad while I was there; our usual trail run at Turkey Mountain, maybe a ride
on the tandem, some intense food consumption and cooking (usually prepared
by the man, himself) and a lot of talking, catching up and laughing; and
packed the essentials necessary for a trip home - all of the athletic
apparel I own.

My visit last week was notably different for us. Dad was intensely
dedicated to two specific tasks; executing Tulsa Tough and planning a family
reunion the weekend directly following the event. What you may not have
realized is that his time in between the two tasks was spent following up
(mostly in person) with local businesses, fellow event organizers/volunteers
and participants, and soliciting feedback for improvements to next year's
Tulsa Tough weekend. The man never stopped.

My time with Dad is never enough. I am without fail always left desperately
craving more and more moments with him and I often find myself daydreaming
back to the summers when the two of us would plop ourselves on the couch in
our home to watch Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen (and now, the irrepressible
Bob Roll) recount the intense drama and athleticism that is the Tour de
France. I'm sure you would all agree that it is one of the most bring you
to your knees athletic events around. I absolutely love it, and Dad
deserves all the credit for my life shifting introduction to le Tour. These
are the moments that shaped who I am; sitting on the couch with Dad
obsessively watching every stage of every tour; beaming with pride
witnessing Dad organize event after event for Tulsa and its residents (Maple
Ridge Run; Cherry Street Mile; Tulsa Tough); not to mention cheering for Dad
in local triathlons, runs, bike races, etc. He is why I am who I am and why
I am where I am.

So, let's get to business, shall we?

I could hardly believe my eyes today when I received an email from a fellow
Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) enthusiast and NIKE employee extending an
opportunity to all NIKE employees who are LiveStrong Ride participants to
experience the Tour firsthand this year! The catch? To be the top NIKE
employee fundraiser.

Yes, this is an amazing opportunity to fundraise for the LAF, but how
phenomenal would it be if I could, on behalf of all of the people who love,
respect and appreciate my dad as much as I do, give him this once in a
lifetime experience to see the tour firsthand? I have two weeks (until June
29th) to work hard and raise as much as I can to win this trip for him.

If you are feeling inspired to send Dad to France or would like to support
the LAF, please follow the link below to make a donation to my LiveStrong
Campaign webpage and please also forward this message to others you feel
would appreciate my message. No amount is too small - and the best news is
that all fundraising will go directly to the LAF regardless if we score the
trip for Dad. We can do this together!!!
