[tbc] Walkie talkies?

For another alternative, the new iphone comes out this summer. They were
talking about it on another list, saying that it would be perfect for
cycling, and the only thing missing was the GPS. I haven't seen any bike
mounts advertised yet, but it has a phone, ipod, computer, and more, all
sharing the same battery and speakers for reduced weight. It's supposed to
have a touch screen, which should be easier to use than buttons. I'm
thinking if it had a handlebar mount, you could dial with one hand, and put
it on speakerphone. Still not as safe as pulling over, but it would be
handy to quickly answer a call if another rider tried to reach you, then you
could tell them to hang on while you pulled over.

Speaking of phones and bikes, Avon's new men's catalog has a neat little
gadget for sale. It's a radio / flashlight / cell phone charger with a hand
crank. You wind it up for 30 seconds, and you get about 15 minutes of talk
time on your cell phone. It might be good to take on Freewheel or other
extended rides. It comes with cords for five different brands of phones.

I really appreciate everyone's input about the walkie talkies. There was so
much to consider that I hadn't when I first asked the question. I will keep
an eye out on any great deals that may come my way, but if I had that kind
of money to spend on bicycling accessories I'd have to go for one of those
gps units...man those sound awesome!!
