Seven or eight peddler-planters have participated in our three efforts over the past couple of years. We think we have planted over 250 bulbs and now have at least three or four more benches to plant daffodils around and near. Excerpts from some of the responses follow: ? I loved the picture of you three. - Sharon ? We placed a bench for Bob Hill at Mohawk Park. - Lynna ? The bench for Mary Simms is at 71st right in front of the bear fountain. - Jo Carol ... is a bench for Bob Hill in Mohawk Park near the parking area near the zoo - Dave and Mary Sue ... a bench for Mary Sims just across the trail from the BOk bears at 71st on the East River Trail - Bob ? There's one at Mohawk for one of our members. ... Bob Hill. - Diana ? What a great idea. Thank you so much for instigating it. I know there is a bench for Jim Doherty near the west end of the pedestrian bridge. - Fran Does anyone in the Tulsa Bicycle Club have a complete list of all of our memorial benches, as well as names, locations, and perhaps the year of donation? We will happily put all TBC memorial benches on our list near which to plant daffodils. We have fun doing this and of course could use more shovel help. Hope more of you can come help at next chance. - Howard \ It's good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it's good, too, to check up once in a while and make sure that you haven't lost the things that money can't buy. - George H. The National Weather Service prognostication is: Tuesday, January 1 at 1pm Temperature: 37?F Wind Chill: 31?F Surface Wind: WNW 10G18mph Sky Cover: 22% Precipitation Potential: 1% Relative Humidity: 51% Rain: <10% Snow: <10% Freezing Rain: <10% However, remember that we live in Oklahoma and the weather tomorrow may not be what is predicted today. That said, if your gumption and fortitude cause you to think bicycling on the first day of the year is a good idea regardless of how cold it may be; then I invite you to come pedal with me on New Year?s Day. If indeed the temperature is only in the thirties and the wind is blowing hard, it will probably be my plan: to don all the clothes that I can, ride a minimum of three miles, decide how many more miles to pedal (if any), never be far from my truck, and never leave Mohawk Park. After which, I purpose we drive someplace for some good hot chocolate. Hope to see you there at one o?clock! Also ? the morning of the First would be a good time to replace the battery in your bicycle computer. If you, like so many of us, have misplaced the computer instructions; you can most likely find them online. For my Tour Easy computer, I googled ?Cat Eye Astrale instructions?; for Jack?s Bike E, I searched ?Avocet 35 instructions?. Both attempts were successful Howard's 17th Annual New Year's DayOne Ride ? 2008 at 1:00 PM - On day one, month one, at one, I hope you will join me for your first ride of the year. Regardless of gale or chill, if it is safe to drive to Mohawk Park, we will casually pedal (10-15 m.p.h.) from Mohawk Park for at least three and as many as thirty miles. Distance and route will be influenced by wind and temperature. Suggest dressing for colder temperature and higher mileage. It remains unfortunate that this event cannot be an official club ride. For more information call Howard Thornhill, 665-3862. He found the problem was hair in its ears and cleaned them, and the dog could hear fine. The vet told the lady if she wanted to keep this from recurring she should go to the store and get some "Nair" hair remover and rub in it's ears once a month. The lady goes to the drug store and gets some "Nair" hair remover. At the register the druggist tells her "If you're going to use this under your arms don't use deodorant for a few days." The lady says "I'm not using it under my arms." The druggist says "If you're using it on your legs don't shave for couple of days." The lady says "I'm not using it on my legs either, and if you must know I'm using it on my Schnauzer." The druggist says "Better stay off your bicycle for a week." -- Moni
