Have you always wanted to take a bicycle tour carrying everything you
need with you?

If you have, or you're just interested in seeing what folks ride and
carry when they support themselves on weekend or longer bicycle tours,
then you'll want to join the Tulsa Bicycle Club for their May gathering
this Thursday evening, May 3rd, at Tulsa's Hick's Park, 3443 S. Mingo
Rd. NOTE: We're NOT at the Martin Regional Library this month!

The TBC's self-supported touring group will be showing up at the park
fully loaded for an outdoor adventure. You'll get to see their bikes
and the various means they employ to carry all they need to be
self-supported bicycle tourists. There will be panniers, single- and
double-wheeled trailers and all manner of touring bikes. They'll even
have a couple of each for you to wheel around on in the parking lot to
see what a loaded bike feels like or what it's like to pull a
two-wheeled or Bob-like single-wheeled trailer. They're going to set up
a camp to show you just what accommodations are like when you're "living
out of panniers."

We'll also be sharing a pot-lock picnic dinner, so whip up your favorite
picnic treat and bring it along. We'll supply all the paper and
plastic-ware as well as ice and drinks.

Sound like fun? Hope so ... come on out to Hick's park this Thursday
evening and join us. You may be inspired to schedule that cross-country
trip you've been dreaming of for years. Or maybe you'll decide that
you'd be up for a weekend self-supported. Or perhaps you've been
thinking about the TBC group headed for the Natchez Trace in 2008. This
will be your best opportunity to find out what all is involved in being
self-sufficient on your bicycle.

Hope to see lots of you there ... and don't forget to bring a dish to
share (preferably with some food in it! Ha!) ...

... Mike Schooling
