From Mike.Schooling at Williams.com Tue Apr 3 10:48:01 2007 From: Mike.Schooling at Williams.com (Schooling, Mike) Date: Tue Apr 3 09:48:55 2007 Subject: [tbc] Tulsa Bicycle Club April meeting - Bicycle Racing, what it's all about! Message-ID: Cyclists, Join local bike racing enthusiast Malcolm McCollum in a discussion of bike racing; from Criteriums to Time Trials to Stage Races. Malcolm is a member of the Tulsa Wheelmen and will answer all your questions about the various racing events as well as introduce TBCers to our Tulsa cycling counterparts, the Tulsa Wheelmen. Malcolm is also Exectutive Director of Tulsa's newest cycling event, the Tulsa Tough. Tulsans will have a unique opportunity to view top-level bicycle racing again this June as the Tulsa Tough returns for three days of races and touring events June 1-3. Last year was an eye-opening introduction to the excitement of short course bicycle racing for many of us and we're expecting even more excitement this year. Additionally there are two days of fully supported tours on Saturday and Sunday, June 2nd and 3rd, for those of us who prefer our cycling longer and at a more relaxed pace(?) ... Adam Vanderburg will be back to share info on the Tulsa Little 100 with us again ... we promise to have good sound for his video this time! He's still looking for volunteers to assist with the event on April 21st. This is a great event if you're looking for a fun-filled Saturday helping out. It should be a great program. Plan now to attend! The TBC General Club Meeting is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 5th at Martin East Library, 26th & Garnett. All routes incorporate the Osage Prairie Trail and most rest stops are at Tulsa County Parks or city Parks. (The 100, 62 and one of the 50 mile routes will have a stop in the zoo.) There's supposed to be live entertainment at the start and at the Skiatook trailhead and there's going to be a Kid Zone at Lacy Park (a short ride from the OSU-Tulsa Trailhead). -----Original Message----- From: tbc-bounces@rootwizard.net [mailto:tbc-bounces@rootwizard.net]On Behalf Of Derek Swift Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2007 9:50 AM To: TBC Mailist Subject: [tbc] Oklahoma Centennial Trek I was watching the news this morning and they were talking about a bike ride this weekend in Tulsa called Oklahoma Centennial Trek happening April 21. If you have, or you're just interested in seeing what folks ride and carry when they support themselves on weekend or longer bicycle tours, then you'll want to join the Tulsa Bicycle Club for their May gathering this Thursday evening, May 3rd, at Tulsa's Hick's Park, 3443 S. Mingo Rd. NOTE: We're NOT at the Martin Regional Library this month! The TBC's self-supported touring group will be showing up at the park fully loaded for an outdoor adventure. You'll get to see their bikes and the various means they employ to carry all they need to be self-supported bicycle tourists. There will be panniers, single- and double-wheeled trailers and all manner of touring bikes. They'll even have a couple of each for you to wheel around on in the parking lot to see what a loaded bike feels like or what it's like to pull a two-wheeled or Bob-like single-wheeled trailer. They're going to set up a camp to show you just what accommodations are like when you're "living out of panniers." We'll also be sharing a pot-lock picnic dinner, so whip up your favorite picnic treat and bring it along. We'll supply all the paper and plastic-ware as well as ice and drinks. Sound like fun? Hope so ... come on out to Hick's park this Thursday evening and join us. You may be inspired to schedule that cross-country trip you've been dreaming of for years. Or maybe you'll decide that you'd be up for a weekend self-supported. Or perhaps you've been thinking about the TBC group headed for the Natchez Trace in 2008. This will be your best opportunity to find out what all is involved in being self-sufficient on your bicycle. Hope to see lots of you there ... and don't forget to bring a dish to share (preferably with some food in it! Ha!) ... ...
