It could be an ordinary L/M/S ride similar to the Presidents Ride or Watermelon Ride, etc.. The ride should be available *only* to members and people willing to become members on the spot. Perhaps a gift certificate to a local bike shop or other door prizes could be included. Some gathering with appreciation to ride leaders, volunteers, etc.. I think TBC needs more value to membership in order to keep existing members and attract new ones. I also need to get a link from the TBC web page and coordinate some of this with our new host. I expect to have all this done within a couple weeks. It is already functional on the account our new host, Mike Riley, has set up for me. I envision the Members Web as something more than just a place to go to view or print The Link. I intend to add a way for members to update their own information – address, phone numbers, email, and volunteer options. I also plan on creating a form where members can request to lead a ride. I would also like to put the scheduled club rides in this area to encourage more people to join TBC for ride information. I am open to other ideas and comments. What would you like to see there? FYI, I understand Derek still needs ride leaders for August 30th and September 6th. If you are willing to lead a ride, please contact our club Vice President Derek Swift. Also, anyone on this list may send a message to the entire group. To post a message to all the list members, send email to tbc@rootwizard.net. Our internet host, Marty Riley, is in the process of making it active on the tulsabicycleclub domain. Of coarse, I will be making changes and enhancements to it in the upcoming months. I have talked to the TBC membership secretary about linking his database to the tables on our site and I should have that done within the next week or so. I don't see any problem with having it finished and ready to use by the August general meeting. I have already added the ability to view and change your membership information on this site. Also, the reason for undertaking this project -- accessibility to view or print The Link on a PDF acrobat file -- is also working properly. I am thinking about adding a "guest" login to the site in order to give members the opportunity to see how it works before signing up for it. It could also show non-members one feature of TBC membership. I will also likely add the scheduled rides to this area and a method for certain people, like the club vice president, to find out who has volunteered to lead rides. I have some PowerPoint slides put together for my presentation of how it works. The presentation is scheduled for the next TBC club meeting on August 7 at Martin East Region Library. Thank you for your patients and support in this project. I hope it not only saves TBC some of our printing costs, but also adds value to the TBC membership. I am taking his place. I plan some significant changes, but it will take some time until they are all ready. You may send me email with any suggestions or comments about the TBC website. The general meeting is listed incorrectly in The Link as August 1st, when it should say August 7th. I will be giving a presentation about the new Members Web area and this mail list after the business portion of the meeting. The electronic version of The Link will likely be available in the Members Web area of the TBC website before the end of August. I was hoping to have it ready by the general meeting, but there are some configuration issues I didn't anticipate. Please be patient. Recently, the TBC web pages were moved by our new internet host. There is some cleaning up to do. I plan to fix the broken links and remove some outdated content within the next several days. Howard, thanks for sharing the information about the GRR rides. Memorial to the Von Franken Family Food Run site at 31st and Riverside where they are having a 9 am run and collecting canned goods for homeless shelters. This is our 2nd year to bring our canned goods and participate (on bikes) during the Von Franken event. Last year we started at the run site and headed south (opposite of the runners) but parking was a problem. Ed Wagner got permission from CC for us to use their parking lot this year, so we'll be able to just ride from there right up to the collection station. We are gathering at 8 am with wheels rolling at 8:10 sharp. Ed is organizing the whole thing and it is open to anyone. I think Ed may be bringing one or more of his children. You all would be most welcome to join us and bring your friends and families. Don't forget canned goods to donate. Some of us will be camping there that night, but this is not a requirement. Hope many of you will join us for this fun evening. We will also tour the city during daylight hours on both Saturday and Sunday utilizing both the Caney River Pathfinder blacktop hiking/biking trail and various city streets. On Saturday evening after dark (bicycle lights required) we will ride about 5 miles from the camp area to Johnstone Park, pedal around the circle of drive-through Holiday Lights, and eat pizza together after the ride. This is not a self-contained ride. Camping is not required. Any and all TBC riders are welcome. Hope to see many of you on this ride and hope you all have a GRRand holiday. Thank you for your support!!! Sandra Crisp TBC member since 1995 Tulsa Wheelmen Advocacy Director President-elect OBC "Let us have a moment of silence for all Americans who are now stuck in traffic on their way to a health club to ride a stationary bicycle. - Congressman (& bike commuter) Earl Blumenauer (OR)" >>> OKFreeWheel@prodigy.net 12/11/03 10:40AM >>> Okay, after a few panic attacks, the 2004 Oklahoma Bicycle Coalition Calendar really is happening. We unfortunately didn't get enough pictures from events around the state, but fortunately the Tulsa World allowed us to print many of their fabulous pictures. The calendar company promised the calendars would be shipped to me next Monday. I will begin sending them immediately when I receive them, although I'm not sure how the Christmas mail will hold them up. Just FYI - they are wall calendars, full color photographs and are wire bound. Each month has events from around the state with contact info (either phone number or website) and room to write your own notes. On the back is contact information for bicycle clubs around the state and information on the Oklahoma Bicycle Coalition. So, here's the deal. Reserve yours asap. You can send a check or money or for $12 (that includes postage and handling) for each calendar, made payable to FreeWheel Inc., PO Box 2389, Tulsa, OK 74101-2389, and I will send the calendars to any address you request. If you want to pay by credit card, you can either call me at 918-592-2453 between the hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and I'll take the information over the phone. Or you can even fax me the info. The fax number is 918-592-0346. Please note: That fax number sits only in my house so only I will receive it. Now, the disclaimer: This is my first attempt at a calendar such as this. I've tried to make sure all the information was correct, but I promise mistakes will happen. Not every event could be listed due to space restrictions, but I tried to get all major events in. I was even able to get quite a few races and MTB races included. But as I said, I'm sure there will be mistakes and I apologize up front. But the photographs are beautiful and it will still look great hanging on your wall! All proceeds from the sale of the calendars will go to the Oklahoma Bicycle Coalition. Please consider this and contact me at bentcruiser@cox.net. - - - - - Derek Swift President Tulsa Bicycle Club --Apple-Mail-2--930990262-- From bentcruiser@cox.net Fri Dec 19 22:10:59 2003 Received: from lakemtao07.cox.net ([68.1.17.114]) by hickory.rootwizard.net with esmtp (Exim 4.22) id 1AXYS1-00001G-8V for tbc@rootwizard.net; Fri, 19 Dec 2003 22:10:49 -0600 Received: from cox.net ([68.97.184.189]) by lakemtao07.cox.net (InterMail vM.5.01.06.05 201-253-122-130-105-20030824) with ESMTP id <20031220041044.UKYW2432.lakemtao07.cox.net@cox.net> for ; Fri, 19 Dec 2003 23:10:44 -0500 Date: Thu, 18 Dec 2003 22:54:59 -0600 Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v553) From: Derek Swift To: tbc@rootwizard.net Message-Id: <7F902D0C-31DF-11D8-A4CA-00306541F4F2@cox.net> X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.553) X-SA-Do-Not-Run: Yes X-SA-Exim-Mail-From: bentcruiser@cox.net Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-rc5 (1.205-2003-09-16-exp) on hickory.rootwizard.net X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.3 required=5.0 tests=AWL,DATE_IN_PAST_12_24, RCVD_IN_SORBS autolearn=no version=2.60-rc5 X-SA-Exim-Version: 3.1 (built Mon Sep 22 22:48:57 CDT 2003) X-SA-Exim-Scanned: Yes Subject: [tbc] Good news for path riders! It would be the Tulsa Trails Liaison. It is a very simple job but big at the hearts of cyclists. The liaison just keeps up to date with the happenings of the Tulsa trail system. I should not say just because it is important now with the advent of funding for these trails. I encourage anyone who rides the trails and likes them to give this a try. It is a good position with minimal duties. e-mail or call me for details. - - - - Derek Swift President Tulsa Bicycle Club From tim-noteboom@cox.net Mon Dec 22 21:56:16 2003 Received: from lakemtao07.cox.net ([68.1.17.114]) by hickory.rootwizard.net with esmtp (Exim 4.22) id 1AYdeP-0002UD-Pi for tbc@rootwizard.net; Mon, 22 Dec 2003 21:56:05 -0600 Received: from cx582905a ([68.12.56.34]) by lakemtao07.cox.net (InterMail vM.5.01.06.05 201-253-122-130-105-20030824) with SMTP id <20031223035554.NOQM2432.lakemtao07.cox.net@cx582905a> for ; Mon, 22 Dec 2003 22:55:54 -0500 From: "tim-noteboom" To: "TBC Mailist" Date: Mon, 22 Dec 2003 21:55:25 -0600 Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2911.0) X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1165 Importance: Normal X-SA-Do-Not-Run: Yes X-SA-Exim-Mail-From: tim-noteboom@cox.net Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-rc5 (1.205-2003-09-16-exp) on hickory.rootwizard.net X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.1 required=5.0 tests=RCVD_IN_SORBS autolearn=no version=2.60-rc5 X-SA-Exim-Version: 3.1 (built Mon Sep 22 22:48:57 CDT 2003) X-SA-Exim-Scanned: Yes Subject: [tbc] January 2004 Link on TBC website X-BeenThere: tbc@rootwizard.net X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.2 Precedence: list List-Id: Tulsa Bicycle Club General Mail List List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2003 03:56:17 -0000 TBC Members, The January 2004 Link is now available on the website.
